The Mitten Daily (“we,” “us”) publishes Michigan news, travel, sports, and community stories at themittendaily.com. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

Information we collect

We do not require an account to read the site. We may collect:

• Information you send us by email (your address and message content).
• Standard server and analytics data such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, browser type, and referral URL, if you accept analytics cookies.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-XHT87SF2CG) only after you choose Accept on our cookie banner. If you choose Essential only, we do not load Google Analytics. Your choice is stored in your browser (localStorage key md_cookie_consent) so we do not ask again on every visit. You can change your cookie choices at any time, or clear site data in your browser to reset them.

Google may process analytics data under its own terms. See Google’s documentation for GA4.

Weather page and your location

Our Weather page can ask your browser for your location to show your local forecast. Sharing it is optional; if you say no, you can pick a Michigan city instead. Your coordinates are rounded to about 1 kilometer (0.6 mile), used only in your browser, and sent only to the National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) to get the forecast. We never receive or store your coordinates. If you pick a city, only that city is saved in your browser (localStorage key md_wx_city) so the page remembers it; clearing site data in your browser removes it.

How we use information

We use contact email to respond to you. We use analytics (when accepted) to understand which pages are read and to improve the site. If you allow advertising cookies, ad partners may use them as described under Advertising. We do not sell personal information.

Advertising

Some pages show banners for sponsors and for The Mitten Daily itself. These are labeled as ads, are served directly from our site as images and links, and do not use tracking cookies.

We may also work with third-party advertising partners, such as Google AdSense. These partners may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance, and, where you have consented, show personalized ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Advertising cookies load only after you allow the Advertising category on our cookie banner (or choose Accept all). The Advertising category is off by default, and choosing Essential only keeps it off. Your choice is stored in your browser (localStorage key md_consent_v2), and you can change your cookie choices at any time.

Third-party links and ads

Stories and pages may link to other sites. Advertisements (including Iron Hill Mortgage) are labeled and link to the advertiser’s site; their privacy practices are their own.

Children

The site is for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
