Editorial Standards & AI Use
Last updated: October 12, 2026
The Mitten Daily publishes Michigan news, travel, sports, and community stories. This page explains how those stories are made and checked.
How stories are produced
Our stories are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools. AI assistance is used to gather and organize information from public sources, such as local government records and meeting agendas, school and team schedules, event listings, and reporting by other news outlets, and to draft the text.
How stories are checked
Before a story is published, it is checked for:
- Accuracy: names, dates, times, places, scores, and figures are checked against the sources.
- Sourcing: facts come from identifiable public sources, which are listed with the story.
- Attribution: information first reported by another outlet is credited to that outlet and linked.
- Originality: stories are written in our own words and checked so they do not copy other publications’ text.
Photos and images
We use licensed photos with credit to the photographer and license where available. When no suitable photo exists, we may use an AI-generated illustration. Those images are labeled as AI-generated and do not depict real people, places, or events as they actually appeared.
Advertising and editorial independence
Advertisements and sponsored content are labeled. Advertisers do not review or approve our stories before publication.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change, as described in our Corrections policy. To report an error, email info@themittendaily.com.
