A2 Artoberfest moved to Main Street, with Edgefest and the market a few blocks away

A wide downtown street lined with two- and three-story brick storefronts, an arched marquee reading Gratz on the left, street lamps and planters along both sidewalks under a cloudy sky.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The fall art fair that usually winds through Kerrytown tried a new address this year. A2 Artoberfest set up on Main Street, from Washington Street down to William Street, on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11, according to The Guild, the nonprofit that runs Ann Arbor’s art fairs.

MLive reported last month that the sixth annual fair was moving to Main Street from its earlier home along Ann Street and North Fourth Avenue. Hours were 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Guild’s listing promised jury-selected artists, live entertainment, hands-on art activities with local partners, and the restaurants that already line those blocks.

Parking was the usual downtown puzzle. The Guild suggested the structure at Ann and Ashley streets or the one at Fourth Avenue and Washington Street, both a short walk from the fair.

An early start on Saturday filled the morning on its own. The Ann Arbor Farmers Market ran 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 315 Detroit St., according to the city. Kerrytown Concert House wrapped up Edgefest, its 30th annual festival of new and improvised music, which ran Wednesday through Saturday. The festival’s parade stepped off at noon Saturday in Kerrytown, and the concert house said anyone was welcome to join in, along with students from Scarlett Middle School who spend two days working with Edgefest artists.

From the market it is roughly a 10- to 15-minute walk southwest to Main Street, which made the whole day doable on foot. Sunday was quieter, with the art fair closing at 4 p.m.
