MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The city of Mount Pleasant is taking applications from local groups that want a share of its opioid settlement money. The city expects $130,000 to be available, ABC12 and WNEM reported Monday.

Groups can ask for up to $25,000 for a project that lasts one year, or up to $50,000 for a project that runs two years, according to both stations. Nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status, school districts, units of government and other tax-exempt organizations are eligible, ABC12 said.

The money is meant for work on opioid use, substance use disorders, use of more than one drug, and mental health conditions that occur alongside addiction. That can mean new programs or expanding ones that already exist, from prevention and harm reduction to treatment and recovery, the station reported. WNEM said recovery education is also part of the mix.

Where the people are served matters. Proposals that help people inside the Mount Pleasant city limits get priority, ABC12 reported. The city’s list of priorities includes housing for people with opioid use disorder, evidence-based prevention programs for young people in schools, rides to treatment and recovery services, case management and wraparound recovery help, support for community coalitions, help for people and families dealing with trauma, and syringe service programs that connect people to treatment and other care.

The deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. The city expects to announce awards by Nov. 30, according to ABC12. One-year projects would wrap up by Nov. 30, 2027, and two-year projects by Nov. 30, 2028. The full request for proposals and a budget template are posted on the city’s website.
