SAGINAW, Mich. — Saginaw Mayor Brenda F. Moore has received the Michigan Municipal League’s Honorary Life Membership Award, the statewide group’s highest honor, the city announced Monday, Oct. 12.

The league presented the award Oct. 6 at its Board of Trustees dinner during its 2026 convention in Traverse City, according to a league news release. First given in 1932, the award goes to people who have shown what the city’s release called “extraordinary dedication” to the league and to local government.

“Thirteen years ago, I set a personal goal to learn everything that I could from the League to take back to my city to improve it — and I am grateful that I’ve met that goal,” Moore said in the league’s release.

Moore was elected to the City Council in 2013, served as mayor pro tem in 2018 and was chosen mayor by her fellow council members in 2020, the city said. Her league work includes terms as president of its Board of Trustees, chair of its Elected Officials Academy and chair of its Municipal Finance Committee. She also completed all four levels of the academy’s recognition program.

She is president of the Michigan Association of Mayors and of the Michigan Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, according to the city. Locally, she sits on the Saginaw Planning Commission, the Saginaw Future board and the MBS International Airport Commission, and she chairs the 911 Authority Board. A lifelong Saginaw resident, she graduated from Saginaw High School and earned an associate degree from Delta College.

City Manager Tim Morales called the award “a significant honor for Mayor Moore and the City of Saginaw.”

Moore previously received the league’s Jim Sinclair Exceptional Service Award in 2021. This year the league honored five other current and former local officials the same night, including Harper Woods Mayor Valerie Kindle and Greenville City Manager George Bosanic.

The City Council’s next regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, according to the city calendar.
