BOYNE FALLS, Mich. — Boyne Mountain turns its resort into a weekend of Halloween activities Oct. 23-25, and a free costumed hike at a nature preserve near Boyne City on Friday gives families south of Petoskey a second option to start the weekend.

Halloween Hoopla at Boyne Mountain. The resort, at 1 Boyne Mountain Road in Boyne Falls, says face painting, a magic show, trick-or-treating and wagon rides are free. Friday, Oct. 23, starts with free wagon rides on Circle Drive from 4 to 7 p.m., strolling magic in the Mountain Grand Lodge lobby from 5 to 7, a bonfire with free s’mores from 6 to 8 at Mountain Express Deli & Provisions, spooky story time at 7:30 in the lodge library and an 8 p.m. family showing of “Casper” with cider and doughnuts in the Geneva Room.

Glow night at the waterpark. On Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., the Avalanche Bay indoor waterpark becomes a haunted-themed glow night, the resort says. Waterpark admission is ticketed.

Saturday, Oct. 24. Pumpkin decorating runs from noon to 4 p.m. and character meet-and-greets from noon to 5 at the Disciples Overlook at SkyBridge Michigan, with face painting from 2 to 5. Inflatables are on the Hemlock Lawn from noon to 5, trick-or-treating around the resort is from 3 to 5, and the free wagon rides and bonfire with s’mores return in the evening. Winners of a coloring contest and a guess-the-candy-corn count, open at the lodge front desk from noon Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday, are announced at 6 p.m. SkyBridge Michigan, the resort’s ticketed suspension bridge, is open all three days.

Friday, Oct. 23: SpOoOoOoky Hike. The Walloon Lake Association and Conservancy’s free hike runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Postle Farm Preserve, 1383 Country Club Road in Boyne City. Kids walk the trails between candy stations, then warm up at a fire with crafts at the preserve’s historic red barn. Costumes are encouraged, and the conservancy asks families to register online; its number is 231-535-6112.

All month: Harbor Springs SkeleTOUR. In Harbor Springs, the downtown SkeleTOUR of skeleton displays and decorations continues through October, according to the downtown association.
