Spring Lake Township awards $257,680 bid to finish North Bank Trail repairs next spring
SPRING LAKE TWP., Mich. — Spring Lake Township trustees unanimously approved a bid for the final phase of North Bank Trail repairs, work that is scheduled to start when asphalt plants reopen next spring, the Grand Haven Tribune reported.
Schmidt Bros. Excavating, which already finished Phases I and II, was the lower of two bidders at $257,680, according to the Tribune. Phase III covers paving and final restoration. Township Manager Gordon Gallagher told the paper crews expect to begin once plants open in early April.
A land bridge on the trail between 148th Avenue and N. Fruitport Road collapsed on Mother’s Day, May 10, leaving the path impassable and causing a sanitary sewer overflow, the Tribune said. The township has said that section will stay closed through spring 2027. A posted detour uses 148th Avenue, State Road and N. Fruitport Road.
The Board of Trustees’ Oct. 12 regular-meeting agenda is posted in the township’s Agenda Center. The Tribune’s Oct. 14 report said trustees approved the Phase III bid at Monday’s meeting.
Until paving is done, trail users should follow the posted road detour around the gap.
