Toys R Us is coming to Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, one of four new Michigan stores planned for the holidays
ANN ARBOR — Toys R Us is opening a store of its own at Briarwood Mall.
The toy chain plans four new Michigan stores ahead of the holiday season, EJ Media Group, which represents Toys R Us, told Patch on Thursday. Briarwood Mall, at 100 Briarwood Circle, is one of them.
The other three are Meridian Mall in Okemos, Woodland Mall on 28th Street SE in Grand Rapids and Tanger Outlets Grand Rapids in Byron Center.
Briarwood already has a Toys R Us shop inside its Macy’s. The new location is a separate, standalone store on the mall’s main level near Von Maur, according to the mall directory, MLive reported. The mall’s website lists it as “coming soon.”
When it opens
That is the open question. The company has not announced opening dates for any of the four Michigan stores, and a Briarwood spokesperson did not respond to MLive’s request for more information.
The company also has not said whether the new Michigan stores will stay open after the holidays. When Toys R Us returned to the state in November 2025, it opened two seasonal standalone stores, at Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills and Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Patch reported.
Part of a national push
The Michigan stores are part of 120 new standalone Toys R Us stores planned across the country this holiday season, on top of about 40 already open, according to Patch. The chain announced the expansion in late September with partner Go! Retail Group, MLive reported.
“This is a major moment for Toys“R”Us as we significantly expand our presence across the United States,” Jamie Uitdenhowen, the company’s executive vice president, said at the time.
Some new stores will have “Creator Studios” for content creators and toy brands, and select locations will add candy shops and cafés, according to Patch. The company has not said which features, if any, are planned for Ann Arbor.
For shoppers who can’t wait, the Toys R Us shops inside Macy’s remain open at Briarwood and at other Michigan malls, including Meridian Mall, Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn, Woodland Mall, Crossroads Mall in the Kalamazoo area, Fashion Square Mall in the Saginaw area, Somerset Collection in Troy, Southland Center in Taylor and Twelve Oaks.
