Things to do near Temperance for Halloween: ghost hunters at the Bedford library, a Monroe trunk-or-treat and a Tom Petty tribute
TEMPERANCE, Mich. — A local team of paranormal investigators will tell its stories at the Bedford Branch Library on Monday, Oct. 26, one of several family outings in southern Monroe County in the days before trick-or-treaters fill Bedford Township streets on Halloween night.
Erie Shores Paranormal Investigators will explain how the group conducts investigations and share what the Monroe County Library System calls “true stories of local hauntings” from 6 to 7 p.m. in the library’s Community Room, 8575 Jackman Road. Registration is required and closes at 6 p.m. that day, according to the library system’s listing. The branch can be reached at 734-847-6747.
Bedford Township’s trick-or-treat hours are 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, the township said.
In Monroe, a short drive north, the downtown Trunk-or-Treat runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, on Washington Street, the city said in an Oct. 15 notice. The evening includes candy, costumes, music by DJ Aaron Lavender, food from Masskrants and an appearance by the Lake Erie Hexenbrut Witches. Children ages 4 to 16 may bring decorated pumpkins for a contest.
Downtown Monroe merchants hold their own candy handout earlier, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, organized by the Downtown Monroe Michigan Business Network, according to the city.
For grown-ups that same Saturday, Teddy Petty & The Refugees, which bills itself as America’s longest-touring Tom Petty tribute band, plays the Meyer Theater in Monroe County Community College’s La-Z-Boy Center, 1555 S. Raisinville Road, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $27, or $37 for VIP seats, the college said.
Citywide trick-or-treating in Monroe also runs 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. City officials ask residents who don’t want visitors to turn off their porch lights, and they remind parents to supervise children, use reflective gear, walk in groups and carry a flashlight.
