Things to do in Holland Oct. 24: downtown trick-or-treating, a Boo Bash at the Ice Park, Día de los Muertos at the Armory and a church fall festival
HOLLAND, Mich. — Saturday, Oct. 24, is a full day of free, kid-friendly Halloween and fall events in Holland, starting with trick-or-treating downtown and ending with a trunk-or-treat and campfire on the north side.
Here is the lineup, according to the organizers.
10 a.m. to noon — Downtown Holland Trick-or-Treating. More than 50 downtown businesses and organizations will hand out candy to children in costume, while supplies last. It happens rain or shine. Sponsor Adient will have a table on Eighth Street outside GDK Park with candy, stickers and giveaways, and FOX 17 reported kids can play Halloween games there for prizes.
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Not-So-Spooky Boo Bash. The Holland Ice Park, 71 E. Sixth St., hosts a free afternoon with a Halloween scavenger hunt, games, treats and a fall photo spot. The one extra cost is the Ice Ribbon barrel ride: $5 for riders in costume and $7 for those without one. At 1 p.m., Herrick District Library reads a Not-So-Spooky Halloween Story Time at the park, FOX 17 reported.
11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — Día de los Muertos at the Armory. A few blocks away, the Holland Museum, Latin Americans United for Progress and CultureWorks Transformative Art + Design Academy host a free Day of the Dead celebration at the Holland Armory. Expect live music, dance performances, art activities and face painting, plus ofrendas, the traditional memorial altars, built by local K-12 students.
5:30 to 7 p.m. — Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat. The Foundation Church, 387 W. Lakewood Blvd., closes the day with decorated trunks to trick-or-treat, family games, a free hot dog dinner with popcorn and a hot cocoa bar, and time around a campfire. Admission is free, and the church says first-time visitors are welcome.
Plan ahead. Costumes are encouraged at all four events but not required. October mornings along the lakeshore can be chilly, so bring layers for the outdoor stops.
