Accelerate Jackson County takes over day-to-day work at the Jackson County Land Bank
JACKSON, Mich. — Accelerate Jackson County, the county’s nonprofit economic development organization, is now responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the Jackson County Land Bank Authority under an agreement the two groups announced Sept. 29.
Under the arrangement, Accelerate will provide operational management, strategic planning support, project coordination and community engagement for the land bank, according to the announcement, which was reported by WKHM and published by Jackson Magazine. The land bank’s basic role stays the same: taking ownership of properties, managing and redeveloping them, and getting them back into use.
The two organizations said they want the land bank to become “a more active tool” for putting underused property back to work, and they tied the effort to housing, neighborhood improvement and private investment across the county.
Keith Gillenwater, Accelerate’s president and CEO, said the move connects the land bank with work his group already leads, including the Jackson County Housing Collaborative, and lines up with the new Drive Jackson initiative.
Karen Coffman, the county treasurer and chair of the land bank, said the partnership gives the authority “access to additional expertise, resources, and strategic capacity.”
The announcement did not say what the agreement costs, how long it runs, whether land bank staffing will change or how many properties the land bank currently holds.
Accelerate Jackson County was formerly known as The Enterprise Group.
