Beatles vs. Stones, free comedy and a drift weekend filled Jackson’s Saturday
JACKSON, Mich. — Saturday, Oct. 10, gave Jackson visitors a full card, from vintage dolls in the morning to British rock at night, with free comedy downtown and drift cars at the speedway in between.
The evening headliner was Beatles vs. Stones – A Musical Showdown, a stage show that sets the music of the two bands against each other, at 7 p.m. in the Potter Center on Jackson College’s central campus, 2111 Emmons Road. The college said tickets started at $25 and were sold online, by phone at 517-796-8600 and at the box office. The show was billed for all ages.
Downtown, the Michigan Theatre of Jackson, 124 N. Mechanic St., hosted The Inclusion Event: Connecting with Comedy, featuring Michael Beers, Nina G and Mean Dave, with disAbility Connections Inc. Seats were free but reserved. The theater’s ticket page listed a general-audience show at 6:30 p.m., with doors at 5:30, and a mature-audiences show at 9:30 p.m. Both included American Sign Language interpretation and closed captions, with a cash bar and snacks.
For engine noise, the Mid Michigan Drift Club ran its Double Time weekend at Jackson Speedway on Saturday and Sunday. Spectator gates opened at noon each day, and general admission was $10 a day, with children 12 and under admitted free, according to the event listing. Saturday’s schedule included a tandem competition for driver pairs from 4 to 6 p.m., with food trucks and camping on site.
Early risers could browse the Antique & Collectible Doll/Bear Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American 1 Credit Union Event Center, 128 W. Ganson St. The county calendar listed admission at $5 for adults and $1 for children under 12, with door prizes, doll restringing and identification and appraisal help.
Before the day, the county listing warned that many doll-show sellers take only cash or checks, and comedy seats had to be reserved ahead of time.
