Halloween Forest returns to Milham Park Oct. 24, with Boos & Brews and Henderson Castle later that week
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Late October in Kalamazoo opens with a free family Halloween afternoon in the park, then shifts to ticketed nights for adults and older kids before Halloween weekend.
Halloween Forest returns to Milham Park, 607 E. Kilgore Road, on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m., according to Kzoo Parks. The event is free and sponsored by Lake Michigan Credit Union. Fall games and trick-or-treat stations run throughout the park, with inflatable games and a Spooky Fun magic show by John Dudley from 3 to 3:45 p.m.
Food vendors listed by the parks department include Ibison Concessions, Ollys Donuts and Coffee Rescue. A costume contest asks guests to pose at a backdrop; parks staff say photos will post on the Kzoo Parks Facebook page by noon Tuesday, Oct. 27, with winners announced Oct. 29 for the top three individual and top three family photos by likes.
Parking is at the Milham Park lot off Kilgore Road near the pavilion, with overflow across the street at Loy Norrix High School, 606 E. Kilgore Road, the parks page says.
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra’s Pint-Sized Orchestra presents Halloween Boos & Brews at Bell’s Eccentric Café, with shows at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The program pairs chamber music with craft beer in a Halloween setting; Bell’s Back Room policy requires guests 18 and up, or 17 and under with a parent or guardian. Tickets are sold through the symphony at kalamazoosymphony.com or by calling 269-349-7759.
Henderson Castle, 100 Monroe Street, hosts a haunted Halloween weekend Oct. 29–31 from 5 to 9 p.m., with haunted tours inside the castle listed for Oct. 29 and 30, according to the event’s Eventbrite listing. Outdoor forest trails, face painting, apple bobbing, and cider and donuts are part of the pitch; dinner and drinks are available at the on-site restaurant. Check Eventbrite for tickets and age guidance before you go.
