LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Catholic’s volleyball team went into Tuesday night without a loss in the Capital Area Activities Conference White this fall. Ionia ended that run on the Cougars’ home floor, winning 3-2, according to MaxPreps.

It took all five sets. The Bulldogs won the first 25-18, Lansing Catholic answered 25-18 and 25-19, and Ionia evened the match 25-17 before closing the fifth set 15-9, the MaxPreps box score shows.

The loss leaves the Cougars 4-1 in the league and second in the standings, MaxPreps shows, with a 14-7-1 record overall. The site still listed them 40th in the state on Wednesday. Ionia is 13-9.

They had been hard to beat in conference play until Tuesday. Lansing Catholic swept Charlotte, Eaton Rapids and Portland 3-0 in September, then beat Lakewood 3-1 on Sept. 29, according to the MaxPreps results.

At a Sept. 28 tournament at Marshall, the Cougars beat the host Redhawks 2-0, a turnaround from a 2-0 loss to Marshall on Sept. 2. MaxPreps’ recap of that match noted that Lansing Catholic had lost its previous five meetings with Marshall over three seasons, and that the win was its seventh in eight matches. The Cougars also beat Kalamazoo Christian 2-0 that day before falling 2-1 to Gull Lake.

There is little time to dwell on it. Lansing Catholic beat St. Johns 2-1 at home on Thursday, Oct. 8; MaxPreps also lists a 2-1 loss to Grand Ledge that day. The Cougars return to league play against Olivet on Oct. 13 and at Lakewood on Oct. 15, with a trip to Sexton on Oct. 20, according to the schedule.

Updated Oct. 7, 2026: Rewritten after the match. Ionia beat Lansing Catholic 3-2 on Oct. 6, handing the Cougars their first CAAC White loss; the headline, set scores, records and standings were updated.

Updated Oct. 13, 2026: Lansing Catholic beat St. Johns 2-1 on Oct. 8, MaxPreps results show, so the line about that match and the summary were changed to the past tense.
