WILLIAMSTON, Mich. — Mason could wrap up the CAAC Red outright on Friday night, Oct. 9. To do it, the Bulldogs had to win at Williamston, the reigning league champion and the one team left that could force a split.

Mason is 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the division, and it locked up at least a share of the title by beating Fowlerville last week, the Lansing State Journal reported. Williamston was 4-2 and sat one game back at 3-1. A Hornets win would have given them a share of the crown.

The two have gotten there differently. Mason has won every game by 12 points or more. Williamston’s four wins have each been decided by eight or fewer, and the Hornets have won two straight since a Week 4 loss to St. Johns.

The series has mostly gone Mason’s way. The Bulldogs had beaten Williamston six straight times before the Hornets won the Week 3 meeting last season, according to the State Journal.

St. Johns (4-2, 3-1) is also still alive. The Redwings can earn a piece of the title by beating Fowlerville and getting a Williamston win.

A split title would be the league’s first since 2021, when Haslett, Mason and Williamston all finished tied for first.

Updated Oct. 12, 2026: Mason won 45-14 at Williamston, MaxPreps results show, finishing 5-0 in the CAAC Red, which under the scenario the State Journal laid out gives the Bulldogs the title outright. Mason is 7-0 and closes the regular season against Hastings and Harper Woods. Williamston is 4-3 and 3-2. Records above are as of the week of the game.
