See the capitol from the lawn. The building is the photograph and the orientation. A Sunday visit does not need a tour desk. Walk the outside, look up once, and go to the river.

The Lansing River Trail follows the Grand through town and is the walk that does not depend on a shop being open. Choose a piece of it. Downtown to the water and back is a full use of the path for a visitor. The trail continues for miles, which is a local fact, not an instruction to finish it.

Then go one town out. Grand Ledge is west, on the same river, where the sandstone ledges face the water. That is the turnaround. The ledges are the reason to leave Lansing, and they are a short walk once you are there. East Lansing is a different errand, closer to campus than to a river afternoon.

The capitol, the trail, and Grand Ledge fit in one day if you do not add a mall or a second county. Hours for any indoor stop are not part of this copy. Early October shows on the riverbank more than on the lawn. Spend the longer hour outside.
