PORT HURON, Mich. — President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally for Michigan Republicans on Sunday, Oct. 25, at McMorran Place Arena in downtown Port Huron, city officials said, in what they called the first presidential visit in the history of Port Huron and St. Clair County.

“Our team is hard at work preparing to welcome the President of the United States for the first presidential visit in Port Huron and St. Clair County history,” the city said in its announcement, CBS Detroit reported.

The rally falls nine days before the Nov. 3 general election. The Republican National Committee announced a St. Clair County stop without naming a site, and the city identified McMorran Place, according to Bridge Michigan and CBS Detroit.

If you plan to go. The party’s event notice lists doors opening at 11:30 a.m., with the president’s remarks set for 3 p.m., CBS Detroit reported. People who sign up through the party’s website can request up to four tickets each. Crowds and security screening are typical at presidential events, so plan for an early arrival, and watch the city’s announcements for any street closures or parking changes downtown.

Why St. Clair County. Trump won about two-thirds of the county’s vote in 2024, and it sits in U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain’s solidly Republican district, Bridge Michigan noted. The county borders Macomb County, home to several closely watched U.S. House and state legislative races this fall, and faces Sarnia, Ontario, across the St. Clair River.

The Senate race. Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, which Democrat Gary Peters is leaving, is expected to feature at the rally. Republican Mike Rogers faces Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in what Bridge Michigan described as a close race that has become the most expensive in state history. Rogers backed Trump’s tariff strategy but recently called for an end to the trade dispute with Canada; the president said he took that to mean Rogers “wanted Canada to make a deal,” according to Bridge.

A busy final stretch. Vice President JD Vance rallied in Monroe on Oct. 15, CBS Detroit reported. Former President Barack Obama is scheduled to campaign with Democrats, including gubernatorial nominee Jocelyn Benson and El-Sayed, in Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 24, the day before Trump’s visit. Trump last campaigned in Michigan in late July, ahead of the August primary.

WGRT, the Port Huron radio station, reported that preparations are already underway at McMorran Place and its arena.
