McLaren Port Huron hires Lance Beus, a former Detroit hospital CEO, to lead the hospital starting Oct. 26
PORT HURON, Mich. — McLaren Port Huron has hired Lance Beus as its president and chief executive officer. The hospital announced the hire Oct. 7, and Beus starts Monday, Oct. 26.
He replaces Tim Vargas, who has run the hospital on an interim basis since former CEO Eric Cecava stepped down in April, 105.5 WPHM reported.
Beus has more than 15 years of leadership experience at hospitals and physician groups, according to McLaren. His most recent post was CEO of the Detroit Medical Center’s Sinai-Grace Hospital, WPHM reported, and he previously led DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital. McLaren said his Detroit work focused on adding clinical services, improving quality, speeding up emergency department care and recruiting doctors.
Before Detroit, he was CEO of Clinton Memorial Hospital in Ohio and Tennova Regional Hospital Jackson in Tennessee. He also served as rural market leader for Jasper Memorial Hospital in Texas and held executive posts with American Hospital Management Co. In those jobs, McLaren said, he led hospital turnarounds, built regional clinical partnerships and oversaw major spending on buildings and technology.
At Port Huron, Beus will be responsible for the hospital’s strategic direction, its clinical and operational performance and its partnerships with physicians, the health system said. Hospital officials told WPHM he plans to start meeting with doctors, staff and community leaders once he arrives.
Gregory Busdicker, chair of the McLaren Port Huron board of trustees, called Beus “a collaborative, accomplished leader” whose record of working with physicians, staff and community partners “made him an exceptional choice to lead our hospital.”
Chad Grant, executive vice president and chief operating officer of McLaren Health Care, said Beus brings “a trained focus on quality, access, growth, and organizational excellence.”
Beus holds a master of business administration from Ohio State University, a master of public health from East Tennessee State University and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.
McLaren Port Huron is a 186-bed acute care hospital and a verified Level III trauma center serving St. Clair and Sanilac counties. It is part of Grand Blanc-based McLaren Health Care, which operates 12 hospitals in Michigan.
