Sterling Heights Halloween week: a costume parade at the library, zombie paintball for teens and owl pellets at the Nature Center
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — Sterling Heights' library and parks department have Halloween covered for nearly every age group this week and next, most of it free and clustered around the Dodge Park Road city campus.
Families and Jammies: Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 22. The Sterling Heights Public Library, 40255 Dodge Park Road, hosts a pajama-friendly Halloween evening for kids up to age 8 and their families at 6 p.m.
Halloween Parade, Monday, Oct. 26, or Tuesday, Oct. 27. The library's free costume parade includes stories, trick-or-treat stations around the building and a Halloween movie. Pick one session, 6 to 7:45 p.m. Monday or 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday; the library asks families to attend only one so there are enough treats for everyone. No registration is needed. Questions: 586-446-2665.
For adults. The Community Center, 40250 Dodge Park Road, hosts a 50+ Halloween Skelebration from 11:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and an Adaptive Recreation Spooky Spectacular dance that evening from 6 to 9 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the Upton House Museum, 40433 Dodge Park Road, holds Haunted Poetry from 6 to 7 p.m.
For teens. Teen Night Out: Zombie Paintball runs 6 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, starting at the Community Center. Check the city's parks and recreation page for registration and fees.
Skulls, Spooks, and Science, Saturday, Oct. 31. The Nature Center, 42700 Utica Road, runs a hands-on program from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 8 and up. Kids handle real animal skulls, dissect owl pellets to find the bones of what owls eat, and make spooky animal masks or skull art to take home. It costs $8 for residents and $12 for nonresidents, and registration closes Oct. 28. Wear clothes that can get messy and closed-toe shoes. Call 586-446-2710 for details.
For a weekend trunk-or-treat, Vibe Credit Union's Metro Monster Mash is Sunday, Oct. 25, on Metropolitan Parkway; details are in our Macomb County weekend guide.
