Mackinac County traffic stop turns up a quarter-pound of meth; three from Naubinway and Newberry held on $500,000 bonds
ST. IGNACE — Three eastern Upper Peninsula residents are charged with delivering methamphetamine after a traffic stop in Mackinac County that police say turned up about a quarter-pound of the drug.
The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, known as UPSET, began investigating several months ago after learning that people were bringing methamphetamine from sources in the Lower Peninsula and selling it in the eastern U.P., according to a Michigan State Police release reported by WPBN, WZMQ and WLUC.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, investigators learned the suspects were heading back north after buying methamphetamine downstate. UPSET worked with the MSP St. Ignace Post and the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office to stop the vehicle. Police said they seized the methamphetamine, cash they believe was drug money and other evidence of drug sales.
All three were booked into the Mackinac County Jail and arraigned in 92nd District Court on Monday, Oct. 26, on one count each of delivery of methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit a felony:
David Archambeau, 36, of Naubinway, held on a $500,000 cash or surety bond, with his next court date Nov. 24.
Pamela Archambeau, 32, of Naubinway, held on a $500,000 cash or surety bond, with her next court date Nov. 6.
Allysin Chambers, 37, of Newberry, held on a $500,000 cash or surety bond, with her next court date Nov. 6.
The charges are accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
UPSET is a multi-agency drug team that works across the Upper Peninsula. The team thanked the sheriff’s office and the St. Ignace Post for their help. Anyone with information about drug activity in the U.P. can leave an anonymous tip at upsetdrugs.com.
