Things to do in Traverse City Oct. 21–25: Dan Tyminski at the City Opera House, two nights of the Go Rounds at the Alluvion and a free arts showcase downtown
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — An award-winning bluegrass singer opens a busy week of music in Traverse City on Wednesday, and the weekend of Oct. 23–25 adds a free arts showcase downtown, a craft show at the mall and an after-dark Halloween walk at Grand Traverse Lighthouse.
Here is what’s on, according to the venues and organizers.
Wednesday, Oct. 21 — the Dan Tyminski Band at the City Opera House. Tyminski is the singing voice behind George Clooney’s “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow” in the film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and sang on Avicii’s hit “Hey Brother,” and he spent years with Alison Krauss and Union Station. His band plays at 7 p.m. at the historic opera house on Front Street as part of its 4Front Credit Union Platinum Series. Tickets are $55, $45 or $35 depending on seating tier.
Friday–Sunday, Oct. 23–25 — Traverse Bay Arts Showcase. Local artists and makers fill the Hardy Parking Structure, 303 E. State St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day with original art, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, prints and seasonal goods, plus live demonstrations, craft activities and food vendors. Admission is free. The organizer, Makers Craft Festival, plans one such weekend each month through May.
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23–24 — the Go Rounds at the Alluvion. The Go Rounds, a band with a devoted Michigan following that once co-billed with Billy Strings, play two different shows at the Alluvion, 414 E. Eighth St., on the second floor of the Commongrounds building. Friday is a fully seated listening-room set of the band’s quieter material; Saturday is a standing-room rock show with no seats. Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 7:30. Shows are all ages, and tickets for each night are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
Friday–Sunday, Oct. 23–25 — Spooktacular craft and vendor show. The Grand Traverse Mall, 3200 S. Airport Road, hosts its Halloween-themed Spooktacular craft and vendor show Friday through Sunday.
Friday and Saturday evenings — Spooky Halloween Lights Walk. Grand Traverse Lighthouse, in Leelanau State Park north of Northport, lights up its grounds from 6 to 8 p.m. both nights, with a lighthouse tour and tower climb to follow. The walk costs $5 per person, 3D glasses included, and vehicles need a Michigan Recreation Passport to enter the park.
