Unbeaten Chelsea rolls past Pinckney 57-14, its sixth straight game with at least 49 points
CHELSEA, Mich. — Chelsea has not been held under 49 points since opening night. The Bulldogs, 6-0 overall and alone atop the Southeastern Conference White at 4-0, played at Pinckney on Friday, Oct. 9, according to their MaxPreps schedule.
Chelsea has outscored opponents 302-109, and its last five wins came by scores of 56-27 over Jackson, 49-21 at Adrian, 63-6 over Tecumseh, 56-21 over Dexter and 49-14 over Ypsilanti, MaxPreps shows. The site ranked the Bulldogs 15th in Michigan entering the week.
The Ypsilanti game was homecoming, on Oct. 2, and it lifted Chelsea to 6-0, The Chelsea Post reported. Gibby Ichesco scored five touchdowns, according to MLive’s Ann Arbor-area roundup.
A week earlier, Ichesco found the end zone four different ways against rival Dexter. He caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jax Ichesco, ran 47 yards for another score, returned a punt 75 yards and took a kickoff back 76, according to the school athletic department’s game story. Special teams coordinator Tyler Santoro said it was the first time in his six years at Chelsea the team had scored twice on returns in one game.
Coach Noel Dean said after that game that the Bulldogs had to cut down on penalties. He also expects another look at Dexter, which he called “a really good team,” in the playoffs.
History favored Chelsea on Friday. The Bulldogs won last year’s meeting 44-6 and lead the series 27-9, according to The Chelsea Post. They close the regular season with road games at Ypsilanti Lincoln on Oct. 16 and at Linden on Oct. 23. Chelsea is playing in Division 3 this fall, the Post reported.
