Ann Arbor Pioneer sweeps its city rivals with a 47-21 win over Skyline
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Ann Arbor Pioneer beat rival Skyline 47-21 at home Friday, Oct. 2, finishing a sweep of the city’s other two public high schools this fall, according to MaxPreps. MLive’s Ann Arbor-area Week 6 highlights treated the game as a rivalry bragging-rights win.
The win stretched Pioneer’s streak to three games. The Pioneers are 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Southeastern Conference Red, and they visited Monroe in Week 7, losing 49-35. Skyline dropped to 1-5 after a fifth straight loss and hosted Dexter next.
The Skyline game came a week after Pioneer won 34-20 at Huron on Sept. 25, so the Pioneers hold the city’s bragging rights over both rivals for 2026.
Across town, Saline stayed unbeaten with a 61-0 victory over Huron. MaxPreps lists Huron at 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the SEC Red after the shutout; the River Rats hosted Temperance Bedford on Thursday, Oct. 8, and lost 35-0.
With three regular-season weeks left before MHSAA Selection Sunday on Oct. 25, Ann Arbor-area teams are still sorting playoff positioning. The Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Week 6 review framed late-season league races as the statewide theme heading into Week 7.
Updated Oct. 8, 2026: Corrected the score of the Pioneer-Skyline game. Pioneer won 47-21 on Oct. 2; the 34-20 score was from its Sept. 25 win at Huron. Also corrected Huron’s league record to 1-3 in the SEC Red (1-5 overall), removed a description of a late finish that did not match the result, and replaced the lead photo with one of Pioneer High School, per MaxPreps.
Updated Oct. 13, 2026: Monroe beat Pioneer 49-35 on Oct. 9, and Bedford beat Huron 35-0 on Oct. 8, MaxPreps results show. The story’s Week 7 references and its summary were changed to the past tense.
