Midland Dow rolls past Bay City Central 57-18; Wolves host Traverse City Central next
BAY CITY, Mich. — Midland Dow’s offense left little doubt on Friday night, beating Bay City Central 57-18 at Engel Stadium in Saginaw Valley League North play, according to MaxPreps and an MLive recap.
Dow quarterback Wynn Diegel completed 13 of 17 passes for 353 yards and six touchdowns, spreading scoring throws to six receivers, MLive reported. The Chargers improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league, moving into a first-place tie after Traverse City West upset front-running Mount Pleasant the same week.
Central fell to 2-5 and 0-4 in league play. Running back Navir Cleveland was the bright spot for the Wolves, rushing for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries, according to MLive. Carter Bublitz, making his first start in place of injured quarterback Paulino Perez, went 5 of 10 for 89 yards and added 22 yards on the ground.
Cleveland’s second score cut the deficit to 23-12 early in the second quarter, MLive said, but Dow pulled away from there. The result followed Central’s 30-0 shutout of Saginaw United on Oct. 2, the Wolves’ most lopsided win this season, according to MaxPreps.
Dow entered the night coming off a 52-24 win over Traverse City West and had also beaten Bay City Western 28-14 and Traverse City Central 30-27 in recent weeks, MaxPreps results show. The Chargers’ losses this season include games against Saginaw Heritage and Mount Pleasant. Central’s earlier league setbacks include losses to Traverse City West, Midland High and Mount Pleasant.
Central stays home next. The Wolves host Traverse City Central at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, then visit Bay City Western on Oct. 23, according to the MaxPreps schedule. Dow hosts Lapeer on Oct. 16 before its crosstown finale at Midland High on Oct. 23.
