Dearborn tests a three-hour parking limit in West Downtown lots after business owners asked for turnover
DEARBORN, Mich. — Drivers who leave a car all day in West Downtown Dearborn's public lots could now get a ticket. A three-hour parking limit took effect Monday, Oct. 5, as a pilot program.
The limit applies at Lot D, Lot E, Lot H and the first floor of the Wagner Place parking deck, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, the city said. Dearborn police are enforcing it.
The city says the goal is to keep spaces open for shoppers, diners and other short visits instead of all-day parkers. ClickOnDetroit reported that nearly four dozen West Downtown businesses weighed in before the Parking Advisory Commission recommended the trial.
It is a pilot, not a permanent rule. The commission will look at how it works and can recommend keeping it, changing the hours or lots, or ending it, the city said.
The change comes as the city also works on traffic and street redesigns along Michigan Avenue and other major roads, and as businesses in both downtown districts look for more foot traffic heading into the holiday season.
