Loy Norrix grinds out a 12-6 win over Mattawan to get back on track
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — It was not pretty, but Kalamazoo Loy Norrix needed a win, and it got one. The Knights beat Mattawan 12-6 on Friday night, according to the final posted on WSJM’s Week 6 scoreboard.
The result came a week after Norrix took a blowout loss to Portage Central, MaxPreps noted in its game recap. The Knights opened the season with three straight wins before going 1-2 over their last three games, and Friday’s victory left them at 4-2.
It was a low-scoring night at Norrix, which was the home team in WWMT’s Football Fever listings. Mattawan fell to 1-5, and the loss was the Wildcats’ eighth straight on the road going back to last season, MaxPreps reported.
It was a busy Friday around Kalamazoo. Elsewhere in the city, Battle Creek Central beat Kalamazoo Central 36-23, according to WSJM’s scoreboard.
Norrix played Lakeshore the next Friday, Oct. 9, and Mattawan welcomed Lakeview the same night.
Updated Oct. 12, 2026: Lakeshore beat Norrix 35-0, MaxPreps results show, and Mattawan beat Lakeview 49-13. Norrix is 4-3 and plays Portage Northern on Oct. 16. Mattawan is 2-5 and plays Portage Central. Records above are as of the week of the games.
Updated Oct. 13, 2026: The summary was updated to report the result of the Week 7 game it looked ahead to.
