Mt. Pleasant pulls away from Petoskey 35-14 and hosts Cadillac Friday for a Division 3 district title
MOUNT PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant turned a tight first quarter into a comfortable night, beating Petoskey 35-14 in a Division 3 district semifinal on Friday, Oct. 30, and earning a home game for the district championship.
The teams were tied 7-7 after one quarter. The Oilers added a touchdown in the second quarter, two in the third and one more in the fourth, while their defense allowed only a late Petoskey score, according to the MaxPreps box score. The Morning Sun, which listed Mt. Pleasant as the sixth-ranked team in the game, reported that the Oilers outscored the Northmen 28-7 over the final three quarters.
Mt. Pleasant is now 9-1. Petoskey, which closed the regular season with a win over Clare, finishes 6-4.
The result flipped the last playoff meeting between the programs. As our preview of Friday’s game noted, it was Petoskey that ended the Oilers’ season two years ago.
Next up is Cadillac, 8-2, which beat Marquette 31-19 in its own district semifinal. The Morning Sun reported that Mt. Pleasant will host the district final on Friday, Nov. 6, and the SI High School schedule lists the game at Mt. Pleasant. A kickoff time had not been posted in those listings as of Sunday.
The winner advances to the Division 3 regional finals the following week.
