Mount Pleasant’s Ziibiwing Center: a visitor’s guide to the Saginaw Chippewa museum of Anishinabe culture and lifeways
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — For a rainy-day or winter outing in Mount Pleasant, the Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways offers one of the state’s fullest looks at Great Lakes Native history, told by the tribe that runs it.
The center is owned and operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. Its permanent exhibit, Diba Jimooyung, which means “Telling Our Story,” traces the history and culture of the Anishinabek, the Ojibwe, Odawa and Potawatomi peoples, from their own perspective, according to the tribe.
Hours. Exhibits and the gift shop are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the center says. The research center keeps the same hours, and appointments are recommended.
Admission. Admission covers Diba Jimooyung and changing exhibits: adults $12, seniors $8, youth $8, college students $6, military $5, teachers $4, and children 4 and under free, according to the center’s price list.
Where. The center is at 6650 E. Broadway, east of downtown Mount Pleasant, near the tribe’s Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort.
Groups. School and group tours can be booked in advance through the center’s educator pages.
