Things to do in Port Huron Oct. 23–25: a ghost hunt at the Carnegie, Murder & Mayhem trolley tours and Donuts with Deputies
PORT HURON, Mich. — The weekend before Halloween in Port Huron runs from a free sheriff’s trunk-or-treat on Friday evening to an adults-only ghost hunt inside the city’s 1904 Carnegie library on Saturday night, with dark-history trolley rides and two spooky stage shows in between.
Most of the weekend’s museum and theater events are ticketed, and several sell out. The sheriff’s trunk-or-treat is free. Check with each organizer for weather changes and remaining seats.
Friday, Oct. 23 — Donuts with Deputies. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office holds its fifth annual Donuts with Deputies from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1170 Michigan Road, according to the event’s listing on Hunt Halloween, which credits the sheriff’s office as host. Families can trunk-or-treat, meet first responders and community leaders, explore emergency vehicles, play yard games and get free doughnuts and cider. A DJ and a photo booth are planned.
Friday through Sunday — Murder & Mayhem trolley tours. The Port Huron Museums run guided trolley rides through “the darker side of Blue Water Area history.” On Saturday, the Murder & Mayhem tour runs from 1 to 3 p.m. and the follow-up, More Murder, More Mayhem, runs from 3 to 5 p.m., both starting at the Carnegie Museum, 1115 Sixth St. The museum’s calendar lists additional More Murder, More Mayhem rides at 5:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets run $20 to $30. For a lighter ride, “Depot” Dave Dazer leads the Thomas Edison Heritage Trolley Tour from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday from the Thomas Edison Depot Museum, 510 Thomas Edison Parkway, under the Blue Water Bridge.
Saturday daytime — dinosaur bones and a Halloween stroll. Fossil preparer PaleoJoe cleans real dinosaur bones in front of visitors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carnegie Museum. Across town, the city’s Halloween Stroll fills the Sanborn Park woods, 1919 Sanborn St., from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with day-of tickets at $10 cash per trick-or-treater, the parks department says.
Saturday night — a ghost hunt at the Carnegie. Volunteers from Detroit Rock City Paranormal lock in at the Carnegie Museum from 7 p.m. to midnight and show guests how investigators use their equipment while they explore the former library. The museum says the event is for adults 18 and older, costs $20 for members and $25 for the public, requires prepayment, and that all sales are final. It bills the night as entertainment.
All weekend — two spooky shows. Enter Stage Right closes its run of the ghost thriller “The Woman in Black” at the Citadel Theatre, 609 Huron Ave., with shows at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children bought in advance, or $25 and $20 at the door; the company says a missing child-ticket option means it doesn’t consider a show child-friendly. At McMorran Place, 701 McMorran Blvd., the audience-participation “Rocky Horror Show Live!” plays at 8 p.m. Friday and at 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. Saturday for mature audiences only. Tickets run $29.81 to $42.15 with fees, costumes are encouraged and outside props aren’t allowed.
Nearby in Marysville. Scaryville’s Haunted Walk & Live Music runs from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Marysville Park, 801 Huron Blvd., according to the Port Huron-area visitors bureau’s listing.
