Michigan Medicine’s Troy campus grows: a heart and advanced imaging center is planned for late 2027 or early 2028

TROY, Mich. — Oakland County patients who now drive to Ann Arbor for heart care and advanced scans will have a closer option in Troy by late 2027 or early 2028, when Michigan Medicine plans to open a cardiovascular and imaging center on its growing campus there, WXYZ-TV reported Wednesday.

The building will house the Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center and the Sidney and Madeline Forbes Advanced Imaging Center. It will go up next to the Frances and Kenneth Eisenberg Troy Center for Specialty Care, a four-story outpatient center now under construction and set to open in spring 2027, the station said. Leaders, partners and residents gathered Wednesday to sign a final steel beam for the building’s frame, a construction milestone.

What patients would get. The cardiovascular center will offer stress testing, heart rhythm management and cardiac rehabilitation, and the imaging center will provide advanced imaging and radiology care, according to WXYZ. “We have about 200,000 patients that travel to Ann Arbor every year for care,” Julie Ishak, president of U-M Health Academic Medical Center, told the station.

Where and what. Michigan Medicine’s Troy Medical Campus page lists the heart and imaging building at 2112 Cunningham Drive and the Eisenberg center at 3050 W. Big Beaver Road, near I-75, with free parking. The page still shows a fall 2027 target for the heart and imaging centers. It lists preventive and general cardiology, a heart failure clinic, electrophysiology, a cardiac device clinic, cardiac rehab and diagnostic testing such as EKGs, stress tests and echocardiograms, plus MRI, CT, mammography, DEXA bone scans, X-ray, PET scans, ultrasound and interventional radiology. The whole campus is about 295,000 square feet and a planned $360 million investment, the page says.

Who is paying. The University of Michigan Board of Regents approved the two interconnected facilities on Oct. 16, 2025, and authorized Michigan Medicine to spend up to $110 million on them, the health system said at the time. An anonymous donor made a major gift toward the cardiovascular center, Sidney and Madeline Forbes of Bloomfield Hills made the lead gift for the imaging center, and the roughly 5 acres of land were donated anonymously. The Eisenberg building next door is a 224,000-square-foot, $250 million project, according to the same release.

“For so many years, Michigan Medicine really didn’t extend east of I-275 in Oakland County,” Nate Forbes, managing partner of The Forbes Company, which owns Somerset Collection, told WXYZ. “This is about extending care closer to the patient base.”

Troy Mayor Ethan Baker said the city has watched construction “move fast” and welcomed the expansion. Residents told the station they were glad to see a long-vacant site put to use, and city officials said later talks will cover housing, shops and restaurants around the medical buildings.

What this means for you. Nothing changes for patients yet: until the Troy buildings open, heart and imaging appointments stay where they are now, and Michigan Medicine’s Troy Medical Campus page is the place to watch for opening dates and services. For nearby residents, the bigger question is what comes next around the site. The city says housing, retail and restaurants will be part of later talks, and those plans would go through public city meetings, where residents can weigh in on traffic, density and taxes.
