Unbeaten Kingsford visits unbeaten Menominee Friday with the West-PAC Copper on the line
MENOMINEE, Mich. — The only two unbeaten teams in the West-PAC Copper Division meet Friday night, when Kingsford travels to Menominee for a 7 p.m. game that will leave just one of them perfect.
Kingsford is 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the division, first in the standings on its MaxPreps schedule. Menominee is also 7-0 and is 5-0 in league play, listed second because it has played one fewer Copper game. Neither team has another league game on its MaxPreps schedule after Friday.
Menominee kept its record clean last week with a 38-28 win at Negaunee, the closest of its seven games. The Maroons have scored 307 points and allowed 83, and their nonleague wins include a 49-19 result at Marquette on Sept. 4.
Kingsford has won with defense. The Flivvers have allowed 64 points all season and have not given up more than 19 in a game, though two of their league wins were tight: 14-9 over Negaunee on Sept. 18 and 15-8 over Westwood on Oct. 9.
The schedules overlap on five Copper opponents. Menominee beat Westwood 50-0, Calumet 22-8, Houghton 45-16, Gladstone 43-6 and Negaunee 38-28. Kingsford beat the same teams 15-8, 37-19, 34-6, 35-0 and 14-9, and also beat Hancock 35-6. MaxPreps’ Michigan rankings list Menominee 27th and Kingsford 84th.
Friday’s game is at Menominee High School, 2101 18th St. Both teams play nonleague games to close the regular season on Oct. 23: Menominee at Bark River-Harris and Kingsford at home against Marquette.
Schedules and scores are posted on MaxPreps. Ticket and game-day details are available from each school’s athletic office.
