WARREN, Mich. — Six Detroit residents face armed-robbery and related charges after what Warren police say was a before-dawn raid on a commercial marijuana facility on the city’s east side, according to a department press release.

Officers answered an active alarm about 2:43 a.m. on Oct. 14 in the 28000 block of Lorna Avenue, near Van Dyke. Police said roughly six suspects arrived in a U-Haul truck and a Chevrolet Camaro. One suspect held an on-site security guard at gunpoint, forced the guard to hand over his weapon and ordered him face-down before the group forced entry into the building, the release said.

Officers quickly found both vehicles as the group tried to leave. The Camaro struck a patrol car; two suspects were taken into custody without further incident, police said. The U-Haul fled south on Van Dyke Avenue. Officers deployed tire-deflation devices near 11 Mile Road, and near Van Dyke and Lantz Street in Detroit four suspects ran from the truck on foot. A short foot chase ended with all four arrested, the department said.

Inside the U-Haul, officers recovered more than 200 pounds of stolen marijuana and other evidence tied to the robbery, according to Warren police.

On Oct. 15 the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges against Marcellus Huntley, 59; Maya Mitchell, 24; Joshua Dykes, 33; Kyle Turner, 38; James Claybrooks-Wells, 32; and Aaron Marshall, 24, all of Detroit. The charging packages include armed robbery, conspiracy, breaking and entering and other counts that vary by defendant; Huntley and Mitchell also face firearm-related counts, and Mitchell, Dykes and Turner face fleeing-and-eluding or related chase counts, the release lists.

All six entered not-guilty pleas at arraignment before 37th District Judge Bieda. Bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety for each defendant, with a steel-cuff GPS tether required if bond is posted. Their next court date is Oct. 29 for a probable-cause conference, police said.

Warren Police Commissioner Eric Hawkins is the contact listed on the department release.
