U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin and Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed held a joint town hall in Warren on Saturday. Michigan Advance published the account Sunday morning.

Ben Solis reported that the stop was part of El-Sayed’s “Shouldn’t Be This Hard” tour, and that the two used it to argue Macomb County still decides races. El-Sayed is running against Republican nominee Mike Rogers of White Lake. The election is Nov. 3. Slotkin, a Democrat from Holly, defeated Rogers for the same seat in 2024. Advance said that whoever wins, Slotkin becomes the state’s senior senator.

Slotkin told the room the party’s real split is not moderate versus progressive. “The real debate among Democrats right now is fight versus flight,” she said. “I am on Team Fight. And I need someone with me who is on Team Fight.” MS NOW also reported the “Team Fight” remark from the Warren event. She said that person was El-Sayed, and that a win would make Michigan’s Senate delegation the youngest in U.S. history and the only one whose members had both rejected corporate PAC money in their Senate campaigns.

She also told the county it decides elections beyond its own borders. “You all have been the county, honestly, that decides more elections in the state of Michigan, and sometimes more elections than the entire country,” Slotkin said. “I only won because we did a couple of clicks better here.” El-Sayed said he does not read the room as red or blue. “I see folks who are sick and tired of having to worry about how they’re going to afford next month’s rent,” he said.

Advance did not name the building. The civic center in the photograph is Warren’s. The story does not identify it as the hall where the town hall was held.
