Unbeaten Cass Tech blanks Renaissance 67-0, a week before a city title game at Ford Field
DETROIT — Cass Tech carried a 6-0 record into Friday’s game at Renaissance, on Oct. 9, and the numbers behind it were lopsided: 293 points scored and 28 allowed, according to the Technicians’ schedule and results on MaxPreps.
One week later, on Oct. 16, Cass Tech is listed for a 7 p.m. city championship game at Ford Field. Its opponent there had not been set when this story was published.
The Technicians tuned up last Friday with a 65-0 home win over Western International, MaxPreps and MLive reported. The loss left Western International at 0-6.
Their toughest night so far came Sept. 25, when King arrived unbeaten. Cass Tech won 20-7, handing King its first loss and dropping the Crusaders to 4-1, MaxPreps reported. The Detroit Free Press credited the Cass Tech defense and Julian Taylor for that win.
Defense has been the theme all fall. Cass Tech has shut out four of its six opponents: Michigan City 62-0 in the opener, then Southeastern 46-0, Mumford 52-0 and Western International. Only Grandville and King have scored on the Technicians, and Grandville’s 21 points in a 48-21 loss on Sept. 3 are the most anyone has managed.
Cass Tech leads its league at 3-0, and MaxPreps ranks it eighth in Michigan.
Updated Oct. 12, 2026: Cass Tech won 67-0 at Renaissance, MaxPreps results show, its fifth shutout of the season, and is 7-0. Records above are as of the week of the game.
Updated Oct. 13, 2026: The headline and summary were changed to report the result of the game this story previewed.
