DETROIT — Wayne State football takes an 0-6 record and a 17-game losing streak into Saturday’s 6 p.m. GLIAC game against Saginaw Valley State at Tom Adams Field, where the Warriors will try to win for the first time since November 2024.

The Warriors’ last victory was a 30-14 home win over Northern Michigan on Nov. 16, 2024, according to SVSU’s game notes. This season they have been outscored in all six games, including a 33-18 homecoming loss to Roosevelt last Saturday and a 69-3 loss at Grand Valley State the week before, the Wayne State schedule shows. Both teams are 0-2 in league play.

SVSU (2-4) is still looking for its first league win. The Cardinals lost 55-0 last week at top-ranked Ferris State, where they managed 128 yards of offense. They lead the series 16-4 and have won the last six meetings, including a 28-7 win last season. Michael Engle is in his first season as SVSU’s coach.

The Cardinals’ passing game has been the strength. SVSU’s notes say quarterback Connor Wolf leads Division II in yards per completion at 19.52 and leads the GLIAC with 1,425 passing yards, and receiver JT Webber has 480 receiving yards. Braden Hill has six touchdown catches and returned a punt for a score at Kentucky State.

Wayne State leans on running back D’Vaun Bentley, who has 423 yards and five touchdowns. He was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after running for 182 yards and four scores against Quincy. Linebacker Luke Johnson leads the defense with 44 tackles.

Saturday is Wayne State’s Family Fun Day. The university’s events calendar lists gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and free admission for Family and Friends Day attendees. The schedule lists FloCollege and the Warrior Sports Network for coverage. Wayne State plays at Davenport on Oct. 24, then returns home Oct. 31 against Northern Michigan.
