Davison beats Carman-Ainsworth 49-14, a week before its showdown with unbeaten Grand Blanc
FLINT, Mich. — Davison gets one more league game before the matchup that has settled the Saginaw Valley League South title two years running. The Cardinals played at Carman-Ainsworth on Friday, Oct. 9, with unbeaten Grand Blanc due in Davison a week later.
Davison was 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, with four straight wins, according to MaxPreps, which ranks the Cardinals No. 30 in the state. They have scored 259 points and allowed 140. Their only loss came at Catholic Central, 56-14, on Sept. 4. Since then they have beaten Traverse City Central 54-28, Saginaw Heritage 49-20, Saginaw United 68-6 and River Rouge 46-22.
Carman-Ainsworth, at 1300 N. Linden Road, was 2-4 and 0-3 in the league and had lost three in a row, including a 49-0 defeat to Heritage last week. The Cavaliers’ wins came against Bay City Central, 44-26, and University Prep, 70-0. The game was listed for streaming on the NFHS Network.
Grand Blanc, 6-0 and ranked No. 28 by MaxPreps, hosted Saginaw United that Friday. The Bobcats were 3-0 in the league and had outscored opponents 234-65. They beat Carman-Ainsworth 49-0 on Sept. 3 and won 49-8 at Lapeer last week.
Then comes Oct. 16, when Grand Blanc visits Davison. Grand Blanc beat Davison 57-29 in Week 8 last season to win its second straight league title, and the same matchup decided the race both years, MLive reported this summer. It is also the last season the rivalry can decide the SVL, because both schools are set to join the Oakland Activities Association next year.
Carman-Ainsworth closes its regular season at Saginaw United on Oct. 16 and at home against Kearsley on Oct. 23.
