FENTON, Mich. — Two teams unbeaten in Flint Metro League play meet Friday night at Fenton with the overall league championship on the line.

Goodrich (7-0, 5-0 league), the leader of the league’s Stars division, plays at Fenton (6-1, 5-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Fenton High School, 3200 W. Shiawassee Ave., according to MaxPreps. MLive’s Flint-area power rankings this week cast it as the Flint Metro League championship game, a rematch of last season’s title game, which Goodrich won 21-20.

The Martians have been close to untouchable since a 10-7 win at Frankenmuth in the Aug. 28 opener. They have won their last six games by at least 35 points each, including 49-7 over Corunna last Friday, and have outscored opponents 297-47, MaxPreps shows. Goodrich is No. 32 in MaxPreps’ statewide computer rankings released Oct. 13.

Fenton brings the more explosive recent form. The Tigers lost their opener 35-13 to Midland Dow, then won six straight, scoring at least 49 points in four of them. Their latest was a 49-42 win at Linden last week. Fenton has scored 288 points and allowed 155.

Fenton has played four of its seven games on the road, winning all four, and is 2-1 at home, according to MaxPreps.

Both teams finish the regular season Oct. 23 outside the league. Goodrich plays at Gladwin, and Fenton hosts North Branch.
