FLINT, Mich. — Flint’s last weekend before Halloween offers a gothic movie night downtown, a costume party at the main library and two hands-on science sessions at Longway Planetarium.

Friday, Oct. 23

Eerie Experiments, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Longway Planetarium, 1310 E. Kearsley St., runs the second session of its Halloween science night. The $12-a-person ticket covers a slice of pizza, the dome’s “Ooky Spooky” light show and a string of fast-paced Halloween experiments, the Sloan Museum and Longway say.

Saturday, Oct. 24

Spooky Science, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Longway’s morning session is aimed at families. For $8 a person, kids build and eat a spooky scene and pick a mini pumpkin or gourd to take home.

Hallo-Palooza, 1 to 3 p.m. The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, 1026 E. Kearsley St., marks its 175th year with a Halloween party in the C.S. Mott Foundation Community Room. The library lists a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt through the building, music from DJ Smuvi, face painting, balloon twisting, crafts, stories and a costume share table. Costumes are encouraged but not required, and all are welcome.

“Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” 8 p.m. The Flint Institute of Music shows the 1992 film at the Capitol Theatre. The VIP Vampire Ball that starts at 6 p.m., with music, dancing and roaming performers by Wandering Lantern Productions, is sold out, but tickets for the screening alone are sold separately. The film is rated R and runs about 2 1/2 hours.

Everyone needs a ticket to enter the Capitol, and children under 13 must come with an adult. The balcony is not served by an elevator, so FIM recommends calling the ticket center at (810) 237-7333 about accessible seating on the main level.

All weekend

Longway’s Halloween light show runs Tuesday through Sunday at 4 p.m., and its Laser Halloween show plays Fridays and Saturdays at 7 and 8 p.m. No late seating is allowed once a laser show starts.
