Things to do in Flint this weekend: Halloween Hootenanny at Sloan and spooky shows at Longway
FLINT, Mich. — Costume-friendly Halloween programming fills the Cultural Center this weekend, from a Saturday dance at the Sloan Museum of Discovery to planetarium shows next door at Longway.
Halloween Hootenanny. Sloan Museum, 1221 E. Kearsley St., hosts the dance from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, the museum says. Tickets include cookies, punch and other treats, plus admission to the museum’s kid-friendly Haunted House. Adults 12 and older are $10, children ages 2–11 are $8, and children under 2 are free. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Tickets are limited; the museum lists 810-237-3400 for questions.
Spooky Science. Longway Planetarium, 1310 E. Kearsley St., runs a family workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday for $8 a person. The listing describes engineering and eating a “spooky scenery,” plus a mini pumpkin or gourd to take home. A second session is set for Oct. 24.
Planetarium shows. Ooky Spooky, a Halloween musical light show created in Flint, runs at 4 p.m. most days and at 6 p.m. on select Fridays and Saturdays; the Halloween page notes there is no 6 p.m. public show on Oct. 16 because of another event. Laser Halloween plays Fridays and Saturdays at 7 and 8 p.m. Eerie Experiments, with pizza, the Ooky Spooky show and Halloween science activities, is Friday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for $12 a person, with another session Oct. 23.
