GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — More than 300 people turned out in downtown Grand Haven on Friday, Oct. 2, for Grand Haven Main Street’s first Witches & Warlocks Night, WGHN reported.

The event invited adults to dress up and explore downtown businesses. Merchants offered tarot readings, handwriting analysis, giveaways and promotions. The night ended with a Witches Ball and costume contest at Kirby Grill.

“We were thrilled with the turnout for our first Witches & Warlocks Night,” said Kelly Larson, chair of Grand Haven Main Street and the event’s co-chair. She said “our businesses really embraced the event and made it their own.”

Co-chair Michelle Dixon said the response beat expectations. “For a first-year event, we really didn’t know exactly what to expect, and the response was incredible,” she said.

Larson said the point of Main Street events is to give people reasons to come downtown and find businesses they have not visited. “Friday night accomplished exactly that,” she said, adding that it could become an annual tradition.

Grand Haven Main Street works with downtown businesses, property owners and the city on economic development, historic preservation and promotion.
