Holland-area ballot Nov. 3: Park Township asks for a 0.7-mill parks levy, and seven candidates seek four West Ottawa school board seats
HOLLAND, Mich. — Voters on Holland’s lakeshore side will decide a township parks millage and a crowded school board race in the Nov. 3 general election.
Park Township parks. Park Township is asking voters to approve a 0.7-mill Parks and Recreation millage for four years, up from the 0.6 mill voters approved in 2022, according to the township. The township estimates the levy would raise $1,006,720 in its first year for park maintenance, repairs, programs and possible purchases of park and open-space land.
What a mill costs. A mill is $1 for every $1,000 of taxable value, which in Michigan is usually well below market value. The township says the full 0.7 mill would cost the average Park Township homeowner, with a taxable value of $183,698, about $128.59 a year, or $10.72 a month. The 0.1-mill increase alone works out to $10 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value.
West Ottawa school board. Seven candidates are running for four seats on the West Ottawa Public Schools board, according to Ottawa News Network’s list of candidates. West Ottawa serves much of Park and Holland townships on Holland’s north side.
Holland Public Schools. The Holland Public Schools board race is uncontested this year, Ottawa News Network reported.
Countywide. All Ottawa County voters will also see a 0.20-mill parks increase on top of the county’s renewed 0.33-mill parks levy. The Mitten Daily covered that question earlier.
