Free pumpkins at the farmers market and a trunk-or-treat on Third Street fill Muskegon’s Saturday
MUSKEGON, Mich. — Families who want a Halloween warm-up in Muskegon can fill most of Saturday, Oct. 17, without leaving downtown, and the morning part is free.
The Halloween Bash runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Muskegon Farmers Market, 242 W. Western Ave. Pumpkin decorating and games start at 10, with trick-or-treating and costumed superheroes and princesses at 11, according to the city’s event listing. Critter Barn will bring animals. Games and pumpkins are free while supplies last.
A few blocks away, Third Street between Houston and Webster becomes the Third Street Fall Fest from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Nelson Neighborhood and businesses on the street, including Little Miss Green Thumb, PLAY Muskegon and The Corner, are putting on harvest crafts, children’s activities and a car show with a trunk-or-treat, the city says.
For adults, the Lakeshore Museum Center’s candlelit Obituary Tour at the Hackley & Hume Historic Site, 484 W. Webster Ave., looks at Victorian customs of death and mourning in the lumber barons’ homes. Sessions run 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17. Tickets are $25, or $20 for members, and space is limited; check in at the City Barn between the two houses.
Free parking for the tour is on Webster Avenue and Sixth Street, the museum says.
