MUSKEGON, Mich. — Families can launch pumpkins at a museum Friday night, and a free Halloween-season movie fills the historic Frauenthal Theater on Sunday afternoon, in a Muskegon weekend that also brings a Pink Floyd tribute and free historic-home tours for county residents.

Smashing Pumpkins, Friday. The Muskegon Museum of History and Science, 430 W. Clay Ave., holds its annual Smashing Pumpkins night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Visitors can launch a pumpkin at the building, paint pumpkins and watch pumpkins explode, according to the Lakeshore Museum Center, which runs the museum. Free pumpkins are offered first come, first served.

Guests also vote for their favorite pumpkin carved by museum staff and local groups, with coins, so the museum suggests bringing nickels and dimes. Admission is free for members and Muskegon County residents and $5 for visitors from outside the county.

Pink Floyd tribute, Friday. The tribute band Dark Side of the Moon plays the Frauenthal Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday with a light, laser and video show built around Pink Floyd’s touring eras. Tickets are $25 to $35, according to the Frauenthal Center.

Free historic site tours, Saturday. Muskegon County residents can tour the Hackley and Hume Historic Site, 484 W. Webster Ave., the Fire Barn Museum and the Scolnik House of the Depression Era for free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. No registration is needed, and the last tour leaves at 4 p.m. The museum center calls the free October weekends a thank-you for residents’ support of its millage. Out-of-county admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for children 2 to 12.

“Company,” all weekend. Muskegon Civic Theatre’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Company” plays the Beardsley Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The run ends with shows Oct. 22–24, according to the Frauenthal Center’s calendar.

“The Addams Family,” Sunday. The Frauenthal’s Free Family Movie Day shows the 1991 comedy “The Addams Family,” rated PG-13, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Admission is free, and the theater lists themed activities and drinks inspired by the film. The Frauenthal asks moviegoers to let it know they are coming. The series is supported by the Howmet Aerospace Foundation.
