The museum is open. The submarine is not.

The USS Silversides is in dry dock in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and the Muskegon museum is open without it.

The museum’s homepage says the submarine, SS-236, is undergoing preservation and maintenance in Sturgeon Bay and is scheduled to return in October 2026. The visit page says the submarine is unavailable for tours. A dry-dock notice on the site runs July 14 through Oct. 16. That notice, dated June 5, says the boat has not had a full dry-dock preservation in more than 50 years, and that the work is at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.

The building is at 1346 Bluff St., west of downtown and just south of the Muskegon Lake channel. Summer hours on the visit page run April 1 through Oct. 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. Ticket sales stop 30 minutes before closing.

General admission is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and veterans, and $13 for children 5 to 17. A household ticket for two adults and two children is $56, and each additional child is $13. Children under 5, active-duty military and World War II veterans are free. The visit page says the ticket covers the museum. The current exhibit, “A View From the Periscope,” runs July 1, 2026, through Jan. 3, 2027.

The June 5 notice estimates the project at $3.5 million. It says the work is supported by a $750,000 Save America’s Treasures grant administered by the National Park Service, and by major donors and sponsors. It does not itemize the rest of the estimate. The posted gate price is unchanged while the boat is away. A visitor pays to see the museum, not to walk the hull.
