Forest Hills Northern wins its homecoming 21-19 over Reeths-Puffer
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Reeths-Puffer was the visiting team at Forest Hills Northern’s homecoming on Friday night, Oct. 9, in a game that figured to sort out the middle of the Ottawa-Kent Conference Green.
Both teams are 1-2 in the division, according to MaxPreps, which lists Northern fourth and the Rockets fifth. The game was played at Forest Hills Northern High School, 3801 Leonard St. NE, the school district’s calendar shows.
Reeths-Puffer is 3-3 overall and has outscored opponents 160-138. The Rockets opened with a 56-7 win over Greenville, lost 17-14 to Grand Haven and won 28-21 at Northview. League play has been harder: they lost 45-14 at Muskegon and 42-13 at home to Mona Shores before beating Union 35-6 last Friday.
Northern is 2-4 and has been outscored 169-154. Two of its losses came by a touchdown or less, 28-21 at Forest Hills Eastern and 34-31 at Jenison. The Huskies beat Forest Hills Central 41-21 and Union 37-0, but lost 56-17 to Byron Center and 30-7 at Muskegon last week.
The two teams have lined up against two of the same league opponents with similar results. Both handled Union. Both lost at Muskegon, Reeths-Puffer by 31 and Northern by 23.
Neither schedule gets easier. Reeths-Puffer hosts Byron Center on Oct. 16 and plays at Whitehall on Oct. 23. Northern visits first-place Mona Shores on Oct. 16, then hosts Northview, a team the Rockets beat in September.
