Port Huron Northern hosts Grosse Pointe South Friday as the unbeaten Big Reds close in on the crosstown finale
PORT HURON, Mich. — Port Huron Northern gets one more tune-up before its crosstown game, and it is a hard one: Grosse Pointe South comes to Port Huron on Friday night with a 6-1 record.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, according to the Huskies’ athletics ticketing page, which lists general admission at $5.90.
Northern is 1-6. Its win came Sept. 11, 27-21 over Warren Mott. The Huskies lost 42-12 at St. Clair Shores Lakeview last week and have been held to 14 points or fewer in all six losses, MaxPreps results show.
South has outscored opponents 285-104. Its only loss was 28-26 to Romeo on Sept. 25. The Blue Devils have won two straight since, 28-21 over Dakota and 42-6 over Utica Eisenhower.
The teams have two common opponents, and the scores show the gap. South beat Roseville 40-0; Northern lost to Roseville 46-0. Northern lost to Romeo 48-0 on Sept. 4, three weeks before Romeo edged South.
Across town, Port Huron High is 7-0 and 4-0 in league play. The Big Reds have scored at least 28 points in every game, including a 56-6 win over Warren Cousino on Oct. 9, and have given up 77 points all season. They face Madison Heights Lamphere on Friday.
Port Huron and Northern meet Oct. 23 to close the regular season, according to MaxPreps and Northern’s NFHS Network schedule. South finishes the same night against Grosse Pointe North.
