PORT HURON, Mich. — Port Huron High’s football team will try to finish an unbeaten regular season Friday, Oct. 23, when it hosts crosstown rival Port Huron Northern at 7 p.m. at the school, 2215 Court St., according to both teams’ MaxPreps schedules.

The Big Reds (8-0) beat Madison Heights Lamphere 42-21 on the road last Friday. The loss was Lamphere’s first at home this season and ended a six-game home winning streak that dated to last year, according to a MaxPreps game report. Lamphere fell to 5-3.

Northern (1-7) is headed the other way. Grosse Pointe South beat the Huskies 50-0 at Northern last Friday, according to the Oakland Press scoreboard and the Macomb Area Conference’s results page. It was Northern’s fifth straight loss and the third time this season it has been shut out.

Port Huron has outscored its opponents 328-98, an average margin of nearly 29 points a game, by the numbers on its MaxPreps schedule. Only one game was close: a 28-21 double-overtime win over Anchor Bay in the Aug. 27 opener, played at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, the conference’s results page shows. Since then the Big Reds have beaten Marysville 35-8, Fraser 40-0, Utica Ford 56-14, L’Anse Creuse 42-14, L’Anse Creuse North 29-14, Warren Cousino 56-6 and Lamphere.

Northern’s lone win was 27-21 over Warren Mott on Sept. 11. The Huskies opened with a 14-10 home loss to Redford Thurston and have since lost to Romeo, Anchor Bay, Roseville, Utica, St. Clair Shores Lakeview and Grosse Pointe South. They have scored 76 points and allowed 309.

The two teams have one opponent in common. Port Huron needed two overtimes to beat Anchor Bay. Northern lost to Anchor Bay 41-14 on Sept. 18.

Friday is the last week of the regular season. The Michigan High School Athletic Association’s playoff pairings are set to be revealed on Selection Sunday, Oct. 25, the conference schedule notes.
