PORT HURON, Mich. — Port Huron’s two public high schools head into the last week before their crosstown game with very different Friday assignments. The unbeaten Red Hawks travel to Madison Heights Lamphere, and Port Huron Northern hosts a Grosse Pointe South team that has lost once. Both games start at 7 p.m. Oct. 16.

Port Huron is 7-0 and 4-0 in the Macomb Area Conference Blue, according to MaxPreps, and has outscored opponents 286-77. The Red Hawks beat Warren Cousino 56-6 at home on Oct. 9. Their closest game was the opener, a 28-21 win at Anchor Bay.

Lamphere is 5-2 and 4-1 in league play, listed first in the MAC Gold. The Rams are 3-0 at home and lost 32-24 at Warren Fitzgerald last week. They beat two of the same teams Port Huron has: Marysville, 14-7 on the road, and L’Anse Creuse, 36-0. Port Huron beat Marysville 35-8 and L’Anse Creuse 42-14.

Northern is 1-6 and has lost four straight. The Huskies fell 42-12 at St. Clair Shores Lakeview on Oct. 9 and have scored 76 points while allowing 259. Their only win was 27-21 over Warren Mott on Sept. 11.

Grosse Pointe South is 6-1 and third in the MAC Red. The Blue Devils’ only loss was 28-26 at Romeo on Sept. 25, and they beat Utica Eisenhower 42-6 last week. Two shared opponents show the gap Northern faces: South beat Roseville 40-0, a team that beat Northern 46-0, and lost to Romeo by 2 points, while Northern lost there 48-0.

The regular season ends Oct. 23, when Northern plays at Port Huron in a league game. Grosse Pointe South visits Grosse Pointe North that night, and Lamphere hosts Riverview.
