Bad Axe hosts Kingston in 8-player football Friday after back-to-back routs
BAD AXE, Mich. — Bad Axe goes for a third straight win Friday night when Kingston comes to town for a 7 p.m. 8-player football game, according to the Big Thumb Conference schedule.
The Hatchets are 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference’s Gold Division, third behind Marlette and Brown City, the conference standings show. They opened 0-3, with losses of 56-0 at Deckerville and 60-6 at Marlette, then beat Memphis 66-54 on Sept. 18. After a 52-0 loss at Brown City, they beat Capac 46-8 at home on Oct. 2 and shut out Burton Bentley 42-0 on the road on Oct. 9.
Kingston is 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Blue Division, where it sits third. The Cardinals won four in a row in September, including a 30-16 win over Marlette, the Gold Division leader. They have dropped their last two, 38-20 at Deckerville on Oct. 2 and 38-0 at home to Blue Division leader Dryden on Oct. 9.
The game carries more weight for the visitors. Bad Axe is not eligible for the playoffs this season because of its enrollment count, the Huron Daily Tribune reported, while Kingston needs a win to stay in the playoff race. Kingston won the only 8-player meeting between the schools last season, according to the Tribune.
Both teams finish the regular season on the road Oct. 23, Bad Axe at Morrice and Kingston at Marion.
Elsewhere on the Thumb Coast on Friday, Deckerville (6-1) visits Brown City (4-3), Sandusky hosts Vassar and Harbor Beach plays at Laker. All three kick off at 7 p.m., according to the conference schedules.
