Algonac served pierogi, then a harvest weekend at the state park
ALGONAC, Mich. — The end of the week of Oct. 5 brought two fall outings to Algonac on the St. Clair River: a Polish dinner in town on Thursday night and a harvest weekend at Algonac State Park on Friday and Saturday.
Pierogifest, put on by Algonac Alive, was Thursday, Oct. 8, at The NAC, 1216 St. Clair Blvd. Doors opened at 5:30 p.m., and pierogi and other Polish dishes were served from 6 to 7 p.m. The Wawel Folk Ensemble Polish Dancers were scheduled to perform after dinner, according to the event listing on Thumbcoast.org, the Port Huron-area tourism site.
Tickets were $30. They were sold at Algonac City Hall, the Algonac VFW, Algonac Chiropractic and Life Care Chiropractic, with a few held for the door. According to the listing, ticket sales help Algonac Alive offer free children’s events in town.
The state park’s annual Harvest Festival ran from 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, through 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources event calendar. The DNR listed a site decorating contest, a scavenger hunt and trick-or-treating among the activities.
The park is at 8732 River Road, and the DNR says it is best known for views of freighters on the St. Clair River. The DNR listed Steve Caryl, 810-765-5605, as the festival contact.
